Quest to learn more...
It is a running joke in the office that we all are Continuing Education Addicts, and we could in fact wallpaper the walls of the office with our CEU certificates! There may be t-shirts coming LOL!!
What is amazing about this is that each of us strive to learn more so that we can provide the most comprehensive care for all those that entrust their bodies to us. This leads me to my most recent certification in Craniosacral Foundations 1.
A little background, I have been wanting to take this training since being introduced to it early on in my career. The most common provider and well known, is John Upledger (now passed) and his Upledger Institute. With being well known comes a decent price tag, but it has always been my feeling that you get what you pay for and education is never misspent monies. In coming into the space that I currently work out of within Motherhood Matters, I really felt the pull to get this education in Craniosacral!
In a prior seminar this year, Barefoot Training Specialist with EBA Fitness and Dr. Emily, I met Sarah who has been a Craniosacral practitioner for the last 20 years. Sarah has taught for several years, and honestly it was financially more do-able to go to Chicago than Florida! What an excellent decision! Where the Upledger approach is a bit more on the clinical approach, Sarah’s training comes from the Hugh Milne approach and it includes more somatic/emotional focus. So given my evolution in my career and recognizing how powerful the environment and emotional impacts are on how our bodies navigate…this was a “match made in heaven”.
Craniosacral is subtle work. This really encourages the recipient to subtly unwind and release. As a infant, birth is about altering as it comes and it stands to reason that helping that little body unwind to its fullest potential is a easy concept. When I said that this is subtle work, when working with infants you imagine holding fragile thin glass and use the barest amount of pressure possible. In comparison, with adults and children you use only the slightest bit more pressure and hold. So how in the world can that possibly help anyone??
You have to understand that just like the lunar tides that water has, so does the cerebral spinal fluid within our brains cascading thru our spinal canal. If you have experienced a misalignment within your spine, you KNOW when you are out of place. That misalignment impedes some of that fluid pulse and it stands to reason that it impacts a chain of things that helps keep our bodies functional. Now imagine a lifetime of STUFF that happens to your body! Yeah. We all can use some unwinding!
So this is just a little brief teaser about Craniosacral and why I wanted to bring this to all my clients as a option to help their bodies.
As always, here is to your health and realizing that small choices can make the biggest changes!
